graze -direct mail marketing

here i decided the most cost affective  and noticeable way would be to use a post card for the direct mail marketing that graze asks for in the brief, it stands out from the other post as of the colour/texture and being in a form of a post card seperates the mail from the letters and makes the consumer curious as to know 'what is this?'

based around the design of the box and the logo

i decided to add textures to gives realistic affect and added to the natural feelm given off, from the organic style natural brown paper look.
1.

using this texture had given me this outcome, i think it fits nicely but the crumpled look makes it look like the postcard has not ben handled with care and gives an un-importance look that could lead to the consumer validating the postcard as junk and not even look at it and put in the bin.

2.

this being the most compatible in matching with my design and the originality of the same type of brown paper used on the graze box

graphic. steven heller - sketch book of greatest graphic designers

This is a book that i had come across at the baltic library, it shows sketch books of  the worlds greatest graphic designers like paul rand, stefan sagmeister etc.
i think this is an interesting book as it takes you in to visual format of these graphic designers minds in how they work and ideas they produce, - the raw format to their final designs that you don't usually see.

Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister, Austrian-born, New York-based designer and provocateur, has maintained expansive sketchbooks since he was seventeen. "I find it easier to think about an idea once it’s down on paper, which gives me the opportunity to squeeze it (until the juice runs down its legs)."

Michael Bierut

New York-based Pentagram partner Michael Bierut has been keeping sketchbooks since he started drawing in 1982. “They function like a security blanket for me. I can’t go into a meeting unless I have my book in my hand. Because I carry one everywhere, I tend to misplace them. Losing one makes me frantic. Once I left one on the roof of a cab on the Upper West Side. I ended up walking ten blocks, retracing the taxi’s route, until I found it on Broadway at 63rd Street, intact except for some tire marks.”

 Sean Adams

Sean Adams, co-founder of AdamsMorioka in Beverly Hills, California (and Co.Design expert blogger), has kept a sketchbook since his first day at CalArts in 1982. Keeping the sketchbooks is a discipline for Adams: “When I look at them as a whole, the common theme of the notebooks is popular culture combined with a Surrealist process. Sounds fancy, but there is often no premeditation of the objects or images selected.”

i find its interesting how sean dipicks a colour palette or tone with a pantone swatch closely selected from the image and logs these in his sketch book.

Noma Bar

Israeli-born, London-based caricaturist Noma Bar creates abstract images of his subjects using objects relevant to the person’s life. In his over 60 sketch books you can see him working through these ideas by creating different body parts out of found materials.

i thinks interesting how noma uses found objects as a starting point to imaginately create a image from this.

Milton Glaser

A treasure of American design, Milton Glaser has designed posters, packaging, publications, environments, the iconic "I heart NY" logo. He has kept a sketchbook since attending the High School of Music & Art in New York. He says he still keeps sketchbooks to "remind me of what I’ve forgotten."

Pep Carrió

Pep Carrió, a Spanish graphic designer, began to work on these diaries in 2007 as a project to create an image every day. Carrió says that his books are "a portable laboratory, where I can work with difference ideas and found images."

black against and repetitive pattern.

Clive Piercy

Clive Piercy, English-born proprietor of the Santa Monica-based design firm Air Conditioned, has been keeping sketchbooks, as he says, "on and off for donkey’s years." He considers them a "visual diary." Although there is no theme, Piercy likes “wordplay, and these pages afford me a chance to stretch my associative wordsmithing limbs."

visual diary of text exploration with a traditional english text style.

calligraffiti

http://www.calligraffiti.nl/

                      WHAT IS CALLIGRAFFITI?

THE SIMPLE ANSWER:
Calligraffiti is a combination of calligraphy and graffiti. Calligraphy is about the art of writing and can have many forms. Whether it be Japanese ancient brush characters, Arabic pictorial scripts, illuminated mediaeval books or swirly quill writing… all calligraphy.
Graffiti is the art of getting your (pseudo) name up in an urban environment. Perfected in New York City and now a worldwide phenomenon.
The fairly new art of Graffiti and its somewhat rigid rules prompt us to look further back into the history of writing. This is exactly what Niels Shoe Meulman has been doing since his teens, and at the beginning of this century he started combining the two. Thus resulting in Calligraffiti: traditional handwriting with a metropolitan attitude.
Some examples of calligraffiti shown below

ABOUT THE ARTIST WHO CREATED CALLIGRAFFITI:
Niels Shoe Meulman (also known as Shoe) is an internationally known artist and graphic designer. He is born, raised and based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Meulman began tagging ‘Shoe’ in 1979 and became a graffiti legend by the time he was 18. In the eighties he met New York artists like Dondi, Rammellzee, Haze, Quik and Keith Haring. He then formed the Crime Time Kings with Bando from Paris and Mode2 from London. Together they gave graffiti in Europe its own distinctive style.
In the Nineties he furthered his technique by apprenticing under the Dutch graphic design master Anthon Beeke. In the years after, he ran his own design company, Caulfield & Tensing and was partner in advertising agency Unruly, which he later turned into brand for silk scarves and a gallery.
Niels Shoe Meulman revolutionized the art of writing with Calligraffiti, an art form that fuses calligraphy and graffiti. He launched this movement in 2007 with a successful solo exhibition in Amsterdam. Since then, his Calligraffiti pieces (signed NSM) have been shown in various international exhibitions and are part of several museum collections. His more recent painting style can be described as Abstract Expressionism with a calligraphic origin.
